Fuzzy G x A.T.C. Interview

We sat down with our friend Fasil G. better known as Fuzzy G to talk about his rising music career, and how that came about. We discussed his musical influences, and his new band Wicked Liquid with Real World DC cast member Josh Colon.

A.T.C. – So let’s hear about some of the musicians that inspire you… Anybody that you can list as an influence on your music?

Fuzzy G- Led Zepplin, Jimi Hendrix, John Frusciante, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and David Ruffin (The Temptations).

A.T.C.- Growing up did you have anybody in your family that influenced your music?

Fuzzy G- It’s funny you ask that, my mom would always tell me I should sing and I was always shy towards doing that. I remember my mom would play Gospel music Sunday mornings so I grew up on it along with Motown but, as far as that goes, that’s about it.

A.T.C.-How do you like the transition of being a lead guitarist to now having the limelight being a lead singer, doing your own music. What’s the difference?

Fuzzy G- Well in a band I get to channel my favorite guitarists, I can put myself in their shoes. And when I do my solo projects I write the material and I'm focusing more on the vocals than playing the guitar.

A.T.C.-Which one do you like more?

Fuzzy G- I like them both the same, because I get to do two different things and live two different musical lifestyles.

A.T.C.-The EP is out now [ It's Our Time ] and by listening to the song, and knowing you, I know what “Charlie” is about. can you explain to the people that don’t know, what you're talking about?

Fuzzy G- (laughs) a friend of mine actually thought I wrote the song about Charlie Chaplin. Charlie is about my drunken alter ego; whom I have killed and buried. But for a while I use to get drunk and high as I possibly could. I consider myself lucky to be alive after all the different drugs I have tried. Since music came into my life I began to appreciate it much more.

A.T.C.- so just recently you became a part of Wicked Liquid, which is blowing up and will be blowing up more, as the show gets further along... How far do you see yourself going with that?

Fuzzy G- until the wheels fall off. whatever happens, happens you know? Maybe years. All the members including Josh, the lead singer, as well as Ben Martinez and Will Whitney; former members of The Echo Boom. We all plan on taking the band as far as we can together.

A.T.C.- I know most of your songs have been produced by Chas “Chooky” Derr. Are there any other people you work with?

Fuzzy G-Yea actually, Will Whitney who is the drummer and manager of Wicked Liquid produced "Charlie". D.A.M. the DJ, who spins for me when I preform, produced “Seedless Fruit”.

A.T.C.- Last but not least, What’s next? You got Wicked Liquid, and your own solo career.

Fuzzy G-I’m going to continue to record and write. Hopefully make some money, because even though it seems like I’m getting a lot of exposure, I’m still broke as a joke. I’m not looking to sign a deal, but I would like to be able to support myself doing this. Idealy, would like to be able to venture off and do shows outside of the DC metro area. But like I said, I am going to try and go as far as possible with Wicked Liquid.
